The Marshall County Highway Department will be asking the county council for some additional funds and money transfers in order to pave more county roads this season.
Highway Supervisor Jason Peters told the county commissioners that he’ll be requesting $550,000 to $600,000 in an additional appropriation before the county council on Monday, Sept. 11.
Commissioner Kevin Overmyer did not hesitate in giving his support toward the funding request. Commissioner Kurt Garner noted that the only funds the commissioners have requested this year were the matching funds needed for the state’s Community Crossings Grant which amounted to $400,000. Commissioner Mike Delp seconded a motion to support the highway department’s request for the funding transfer and additional appropriation. It was unanimously approved.
In addition, Highway Administrator Laurie Baker told the commissioners that notification of Community Crossing grant awards will not be announced until late September or early October. She opted to wait to publish a call out for bids until the county is notified if it’s a grant recipient.
