Marshall County Museum Proceeds with Grant Applications

The Marshall County Museum is moving ahead with upgrades to its Sports Room, as well as a few other projects.

Last year, the Sports Room exhibit got a $30,000 Heritage Support Grant from the Indiana Historical Society and the Lilly Endowment. During her quarterly report to the county commissioners Monday, Executive Director Linda Rippy said the museum can now apply for up to another $50,000 for the second phase.

Meanwhile, the museum has already applied for funding from the Lilly Foundation for additional storage facilities. “We’re running out of room again, but no, we’re not buying another building!” she joked. “But we need more shelving and stuff so they offered us to apply for a grant for no more than $5,000.” Rippy says the new storage equipment will allow the museum to better utilize the existing space in its basement.

At the same time, the county’s been awarded grant funds for the Marshall County Visitors Guide. Rippy also announced that the Marshall County Historical Society’s annual meeting is set for Friday, April 7 and will feature longtime Indianapolis Motor Speedway Historian Donald Davidson.
