Flood warnings continue throughout the local area, and some rivers could reach record levels in the coming days. In Plymouth, the Yellow River has risen above 17 feet, surpassing a record set in 1954, according to the National Weather Service.
Marshall County is under a flood warning and a watch level travel advisory.
Marshall County EMA Director Clyde Avery says the Yellow River and Tippecanoe River are expected to crest later this week well above Major Flood Stage. The Yellow River is expected to crest at 16.4 feet by 7 a.m. on Thursday and the Tippecanoe River is expected to crest at 14 feet by 7 a.m. on Saturday. Avery says residents can expect flooding of urban areas and small streams, ditches and creeks.
Two local waterways will be getting some upgrades, thanks to grant funding from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. The latest round of Lake and River Enhancement program grants includes funds for projects benefiting Lake Maxinkuckee and the Tippecanoe River.
Indiana anglers need to purchase new fishing licenses. State-issued fishing licenses are valid from April 1 through March 31 of the following year. A valid license is needed to fish in public lakes, streams, rivers or tributaries in Indiana or its boundary waters. Continue reading
Minor flooding of the Tippecanoe River near Ora is expected to occur over the weekend. A flood warning remains in effect until late Sunday night. As of 8 p.m. Wednesday the river was holding steady at 11.7 feet. That’s just below the 12 foot flood stage in that area. Continue reading
