Mammogram Vouchers Available for Eligible Women
Low-income, uninsured or underinsured women in Starke and Marshall Counties may qualify for free screening mammograms and some diagnostic follow-up procedures. Plymouth High School Ranked Among Best in Indiana by U.S. News & World Report
A local high school ranks among the top-performing in the state, according to a national magazine. The 2015 U.S. News & World Report Best High School rankings evaluate students on college readiness. Plymouth High School Robotics Teams Perform Well in World, State Competitions
The Plymouth High School VEX Robotics teams represented the school in the recent world championship competition in Louisville, Kentucky.
The team finished 22nd in their division which featured tough opposition, according to Robotics Club Sponsor Rich Scheiber. The team was eliminated a round prior to the elimination tournament. Scheiber said the students in the second-year robotics program were up against 450 teams from around the world, and he was proud of their effort.
Two robotics teams also recently participated in the CREATE U.S. Open Robotics Championship. The teams finished 36th and 63rd in their divisions.
Plymouth High School Stages Mock Drunk Driving Fatality
Decisions you make now can have lifelong consequences. That’s one of the messages faculty and staff at Plymouth High School wanted to convey to students by staging a mock drunk driving fatality crash. Gene Skirvin sponsors the student group Leaders Eliminating Alcohol and Drugs. He hopes students will stop and think.

Plymouth Schools Look to Educate Students on Cybercrime
The Plymouth School Corporation is hoping to educate its students on the potential dangers of cybercrime.
Eric Tamashasky is considered an expert on the subject. He’s an attorney and legal advisor for the St. Joseph County Police Department.
Plymouth High School Students Moving on in Speech and Debate Competitions
Students from Plymouth High School are headed to the Indiana High School Forensic Association state competition at Fishers High School in Indianapolis this Saturday.
The team qualified after claiming the school’s 34th consecutive sectional championship at Concord High School on March 7. The students participated in events such as declamation, discussion, dramatic interpretation, duo interpretation (memorized), duo interpretation (scripted), humorous interpretation, impromptu speaking, international extemporaneous speaking, original oratory, original performance, poetry reading, prose reading, and United States extemporaneous speaking. Virtual Learning Days Set for Plymouth Students
Plymouth students will be making up three missed days of school by means of virtual learning.
Lessons for three Saturdays, April 11, April 18 and May 16, will be available on the Thursday prior to those virtual learning days. The assignments will be due the following Tuesday. Teachers will schedule six hours of “office hours” during the weekend of e-learning days. Teachers will be available for assignment questions on those dates from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET.
Hoosier Boys State, Hoosier Girls State Nominations Needed
Plymouth High School teachers are sending in nominations for Hoosier State. Two boys and two girls will be sponsored by the American Legion Post 27 to serve as Plymouth’s delegates this summer.
Nominations of these 11th-grade students will be accepted in the Plymouth High School Guidance office until Wednesday at 3:15 p.m. ET.
College Goal Sunday Event This Weekend
Those needing assistance filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, form can get assistance in this weekend’s College Goal Sunday event.
The form is due March 10 to be eligible for federal student aid. The FAFSA form is required for students to be considered for federal and state grants, scholarships and student loans at most post-secondary schools. The FAFSA form can be perceived as time-consuming, but students can get the FAFSA form filed online during Sunday’s event.
Weidner School of Inquiry Selected as Exemplar School
The Weidner School of Inquiry at Plymouth High School has been designated as an exemplar school for 2015 by the Partnership for 21st Century Skills. The Partnership for 21st Century Skills is the leading organization advocating for 21st century learning.
The Weidner School of Inquiry was one of 14 schools selected for this honor. The program highlights exemplary 21st century learning practices that are improving schools and student learning in classrooms and communities across the United States.
RoboNinjas Continue Winning Ways
A pair of robot enthusiasts at Plymouth High School continues to trounce the competition. Josh Kuhn and Kennedy Schneiders, seniors at Plymouth High School traveled to Crown Point Saturday, Nov. 8 to compete in their first VEX Robotics competition for the 2014-15 season. The two time reigning state champions unveiled their robot and quickly discovered they had an advantage over the competition. They toppled their opponents and grabbed the title of Tournament Champions giving them an invitation to the Indiana State Tournament in March. They will next compete at the Warren Central Tournament on Dec. 6.
In the VEX Robotics Competitions, teams of students are tasked with designing and building a robot to play against other teams in a game-based engineering challenge. Classroom STEM concepts are put to the test on the playing field as students learn lifelong skills in teamwork, leadership, communications, and more. Tournaments are held year-round at the regional, state, and national levels.
Plymouth’s Condon Named Principal of the Year
The principal of a local high school is the 2014 District High School Principal of the Year. Plymouth High School Principal James Condon was honored by the Indiana Association of School Principals during their weekend celebration dinner. Continue reading
