The Plymouth Community School Corporation is changing its funding arrangement with The Crossing School of Business and Entrepreneurship. The faith-based alternative high school aims to offer another option for students recovering from drug addiction or criminal histories, as well as those who’ve simply struggled in traditional public schools.
Marshall County Sites for the Summer Food Service Program
More than 250 Indiana schools and community sponsors will be kicking off their Food Summer Service Programs this week, with a number of local sites included.
June is the busiest month for the program since many families begin seeking additional nutrition assistance in the summertime. For that reason, Governor Eric Holcomb issued a statewide proclamation, declaring the week of June 4th through the 8th Summer Food Service Program week.
For more than 40 years, the program has provided eligible children and teens ages 18 and under with access to free, nutritious meals and snacks during the summer months. Last year, more than 3 million meals were delivered across the state. Here in Marshall County, there will be sites set up in Bremen, Culver and Plymouth. Continue reading

$10,000 Donation From Gene Haas Foundation Among Consent Items Approved by Plymouth School Board
The Plymouth School Board considered accepting donations made to Jefferson Elementary School as well as Plymouth High School when members met Tuesday night.
According to the donation reports provided in the interactive agenda through BoardDocs, from March 13th through the 20th, a total of $650 dollars was donated to Jefferson Elementary School from various individuals.
Additionally, a $10,000 donation was submitted to the high school on behalf of the Gene Haas Foundation in April. Continue reading

Marshall County Commissioners Hear Proposals for Services
The Marshall County Commissioners heard about two cost savings proposal Monday morning.
Bruce Breeden from Telemon Energy Corporation offered to visit all of the county buildings to do an energy savings assessment at no cost to the county. They will look at a LED lighting conversion and determine a cost savings. They have recently worked to help retrofit the Plymouth Community School Corporation.
Plymouth Schools Policy States No More than Three eLearning Days Can Be Held Consecutively
Plymouth Schools will not be in session today, but rather than holding an eLearning day students will need to make up today’s absence at the end of the year on Thursday, May 31st.
Superintendent Andy Hartley explained that the reason an eLearning day cannot be held today is due to a recommendation from the Indiana Department of Education.
Based on feedback they received from districts who piloted the program, IDOE recommends that schools should not have more than three eLearning days in a row. Continue reading
Plymouth Aquatics Center, Early Childhood Center, Offices Planned
The Plymouth City Council members held the first reading of an ordinance Monday night that sets the pathway for funding the Aquatics Center, Early Childhood Learning Center and offices for the Marshall County Community Foundation and United Way organizations. They will be constructed on Miller Drive near the Lifeplex facility west of Plymouth.
Plymouth Students Collect Over $39,000 During Riley Dance Marathon Fundraisers
A number of Plymouth Community School students danced their way into setting a new record and exceeding their set goal during the Riley Dance Marathon fundraisers held in January.
PCSC Marketing Director Judi Lykowki shared that the PHS Dance Marathon committee coordinated with some of the elementary schools to hold super-hero days. Kids donated a dollar and then they were able to wear a cape or their favorite super hero shirt to school to show support for the charity.
On Friday, mini dance marathons were held at Lincoln Junior High School and Riverside Intermediate School. More than $13,500 was raised between the two schools. Continue reading
Plymouth Schools Business Manager Presents Year-End Financial Report
Declining enrollment at the Plymouth Community School Corporation has led to a slightly lower cash balance in the corporation’s General Fund. During Tuesday’s board of finance meeting, Business Manager Kandi Tinkey said the school corporation ended 2017 with roughly $3.4 million in its General Fund reserves.
Bus-Load of Donations Collected at Plymouth Bus Drivers’ Food Drive
When Bus Drivers for Plymouth Community Schools held their first-ever “Stuff-a-Bus” Food Drive last Saturday, it garnered great results.
At the end of the three hour food drive, the bus stationed in the parking lot of Wal-Mart had every seat filled with non-perishable goods. Additionally, $200 in cash was donated as well. All the donations were split in half and then delivered to the Bread of Life Food Pantry and the Marshall County Neighborhood Center.
Assistant Director of Transportation Brandon Berger said that Bus Driver Mark Harder proposed the unique food drive idea and served as one of the main organizers. Berger stated that due to this year’s success, they hope to make the Stuff-a-Bus non-perishable food drive an annual event.
Plymouth Bus Drivers’ to Host a Food Drive this Saturday
This Saturday, bus drivers for Plymouth Community Schools will be tackling a different kind of drive; a food drive.
On Saturday, December 16th, drivers are holding the ‘Stuff a Bus Food Drive’ in order to benefit the Marshall County Neighborhood Center and the Bread of Life Food Pantry. Drivers will be stationed in the Walmart parking lot in Plymouth from 9 a.m. until noon.
They’ll be collecting nonperishable food items in an attempt to fill an entire bus with supplies that will assist local families in need. Come out this Saturday and help Plymouth bus drivers collect enough food to drive away hunger this holiday season.
Plymouth Schools Superintendent Keeping an Eye on Graduation Pathways Proposal
Changes to high school graduation requirements are being discussed during today’s State Board of Education meeting. Among the local school administrators following the issue is Plymouth Schools Superintendent Andy Hartley. “There are concerns with respect to the access to earning a high school diploma for all students,” he told the Plymouth School Board Tuesday. “Those were and have been voiced by me and several others, and so we’ll see where things land.”
Triton, Argos School Corporations See Improvement in Letter Grades
Some local school corporations saw their letter grades improve slightly, while others remained flat. On Wednesday, the Indiana State Board of Education finalized the A-to-F grades for each of the state’s school corporations for the 2016-2017 school year.
2016-2017 School Accountability Grades Released
The A through F School Accountability Grades for the 2016-2017 school year were released this week by the Indiana Department of Education. Locally, Triton, as well as some Plymouth Schools showed improvement from the year before.
Plymouth School Corporation Welcomes New Teachers, Staff Members
The new school year has brought a few changes at the Plymouth Community School Corporation. Andy Hartley has recently taken over as superintendent, while Jill VanDriessche will soon take over his old position of assistant superintendent.
Culver School Board Meets New Elementary School Teachers
The Culver Community Schools Corporation has finalized the list of teachers for the upcoming school year. Three new elementary school teachers were officially hired during last week’s school board meeting.
Plymouth Community School Corporation Opens Registration
Registration is now open at the Plymouth Community School Corporation.
Returning students and new students may register online at www.plymouth.k12.in.us. An email message for returning students will include a snapcode that will link the student directly to individual information. Instructions will also describe how to access the online registration system. New students must call the administration office to be provided with a registration snapcode identification information.
Plymouth Community School Board Appoints New Superintendent
Plymouth Community School Corporation Assistant Superintendent Andrew Hartley was appointed as the corporation’s new superintendent. The action was made official by a unanimous vote by the Plymouth Community School Board members Wednesday night.
Hartley will be replacing Dan Tyree as superintendent when Tyree retires at the end of the month.
Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety Discusses MOU with Plymouth Schools
Plymouth City Engineer Rick Gaul presented the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members with a proposed Memorandum of Understanding from the Plymouth Community School Corporation concerning the financial guarantee that deals with drainage at the football field.
The school is applying an astroturf surface on the high school football field beginning in June. Gaul explained that the plans call for a proper draining into the city’s system with the alternate type of surface.
