Plymouth Street Superintendent Submits Street Sweeper Contract and Sidewalk Request for BOW Consideration
Plymouth Board of Works members considered a few different requests during their meeting last Monday.
Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt presented board members with a contract from National Joint Power Alliance (NJPA).
Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver explained that the department is looking to buy a street sweeper and Marquardt was seeking board acceptance to move forward with the purchase through this company. The board provided unanimous approval of the contract with NJPA. Continue reading
Memorandum of Understanding Between City of Plymouth and MCEDC Approved by Plymouth BOW
Plymouth Board of Works members approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation and the City of Plymouth when they met Monday night.
The MOU is related to the Miller Drive Project which includes the construction of Aquatics Center, Marshall County Community Foundation Offices and Early Childhood Learning Center. Continue reading
Plymouth BOW Considers Economic Development Agreement For Early Childhood Learning Center and Aquatic Center Project
Plymouth Board of Public Works members considered an economic development agreement for the Aquatics Center and Early Childhood Learning Center project when they met last Monday.
City Attorney Sean Surrisi explained that the agreement sets up the terms of obligation for the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation entities, also referred to as the developers, to build the facilities with the money that’s being provided by all the different sources.
He said the agreement already went before the Redevelopment Commission at their last meeting where it was approved. He also explained the why the agreement needed to come before the board members as well. Continue reading
Plymouth BOW Approves Street Closure Requests for the Cars and Coffee Events and St. Michael’s Race for Education
Two street closing requests were considered by Plymouth Board of Works members when they met on Monday.
In one request, Saint Michael’s Catholic School Secretary Molly Kuykendall asked to close Center Street from Madison to Monroe for the school’s annual Olympic Day Race for Education. The request included that they will not block the exit to county parking lot. Continue reading
Bids for West Lake Avenue Water Main Extension Project Considered at Plymouth BOW Meeting
Project bids for extension work needed on a West Lake Avenue water main were considered during the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety meeting on Monday. Plymouth Utility Superintendent Donnie Davidson mentioned that the original engineer’s estimate for the project was about $187,450.
He also explained what the project will entail, “It’s an 8-inch water main that will go from where the Montgomery Apartments are, across from the hospital, and it will go around the corner and it will serve the Autumn Trace Assisted Living Facility and will dead-end at their west driveway.” Continue reading
Plymouth Board of Works Approves Bowen Printing Property Sale
A proposal requesting the sale of a city-owned building that sustained major flood damage was brought to the attention of Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members when they met last Monday.
City Attorney Sean Surrisi explained that a structure at 200 South Michigan is city-owned but has been leased to the company Bowen Printing for many years. Continue reading
Street Closure Request for Downtown Merchants’ Second Friday Events Approved by Plymouth BOW
Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members considered a street closure request when they met last week.
Last Monday night, BOW members received a request submitted by Promotion of the City Coodinator Laura Mann.
Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver read the request, explaining that it asked to close Garro Street, west of Michigan Street and east of the alley, for the 2nd Friday events sponsored by the Downtown Merchants’ Group. Continue reading
Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety Members Consider Request to Work in Right-of-Way
City Engineer Rick Gaul approached the Plymouth Board of Works members with a request related to working in the right-of-way when they met last Monday.
Gaul explained that the request was submitted from United Telephone, or CenturyLink Services. According to Gaul, the company asked to run an underground communications line off of Evergreen Drive, perpendicular to the right-of-way, in order to bring services to a property at 212 Eastwood Estates. Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety Members Receive Tentative List of Sidewalks for the ADA Transition Plan
A tentative list of proposed sidewalk projects for Plymouth’s ADA Transition plan was presented at the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting earlier this week.
Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt explained that the list is currently incomplete because he intends to meet with a representative from Michiana Area Council of Governments (MACOG). Together, they will assess the status of the walkways within the city and determine which areas are not in compliance with ADA specifications.
For the time being, he presented members with some sidewalks that are noticeably in need of upgrades. Continue reading
Plymouth BOW Awards Spring Project Bids
Bid awards for the spring surface treatment, street and sidewalk projects were considered during Monday night’s Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety meeting.
City Engineer Rick Gaul informed the BOW members that the bid for the spring surface treatment project that was submitted by Pavement Solutions initially came in over budget at $240,788.98.
He said in order to bring down the cost, the proposed streets in the project were assessed. Gaul said after consulting with Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt and Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver about the specifics, he felt the work on Randolph Street could wait while the work on Webster Avenue was established as the highest priority. Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety Members Address Parking Problems on Gary Drive and Plum Street
At the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety meeting this week, Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt received permission to install signage on Gary Drive, near Love’s Travel Stop.
Superintendent Marquardt asked board members to allow him to put up no parking signs in that area to keep semi-trucks from parking vehicles on the roadway. He said the problem became the most apparent when they ran into trouble plowing streets due to the abundance of trucks parked on the road, rather than in the lot. Mayor Mark Senter commented that it should be common sense for people not to park there, but agreed that something should be done to prevent future problems. The request received unanimous approval from board members.
Board members also continued discussion about problems with parking on Plum Street. Continue reading
