The Plymouth Board of Public Works approved safe passage through intersections by police escort for riders of the Plymouth-Kilwinning Lodge for Sunday, June 12 starting at 11:30 a.m. for their 14th Annual Widows Sons Ride which supports charities including the Boys and Girls Club, the Neighborhood Center and Shop with a Cop that benefit not only Marshall County but bordering counties including Starke County.

The Plymouth Board of Public Works members were notified Monday night of utility work done without going through the proper permitting process.
Yellow River Festival organizer Eric Anderson alerted the Plymouth Board of Public Works members Monday night that more intense weapon demonstrations will occur during this year’s festival as WWII information is available to festival goers.
Plymouth Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt presented Board of Public Works members with 2017 Community Crossings Matching Grant contracts and a change order for spring sidewalk and street projects at their meeting Wednesday.
The change order included three quantity adjustments for work done to Jefferson Street as well as deductions for pavement markings and stones that were not required. Board members unanimously approved the change order which Marquardt said amounted to an additional $1,369.25. Continue reading
The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety and the City Council meet tonight to discuss matters impacting the community. The Board of Public Works and Safety meeting will start first at 6 p.m.
Agenda items include a request from the utility superintendent about a water main extension at State Road 17 and W. Lake Avenue as well as an executive order from the city attorney regarding 408 Pierce Street.
Other requests consist of the Chamber of Commerce seeking permission to continue with downtown trick-or-treating this year and a temporary street closing by John Montgomery. The Mayor’s Youth Council will provide a request about the “Adopt a Street” project.
The City Council will convene at 6:30 p.m. or immediately following the adjournment of the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting. Continue reading
The Plymouth Board of Public Works ratified an executive order last week to allow a shredding truck to park in three parking spaces in front of the Mayor’s office.
The order allows parking spaces on Garro Street to be used for the action of shredding old documents approved for destruction by the Marshall County Commission of Public Records and the Indiana Archives and Records and Administration.

The Plymouth Board of Public Works will discuss a lease of two parking spaces in the southwest corner of the Water Street parking lot when they meet tonight. They will also have reports from the department heads. A request to put a duck crossing sign by the pond at Jackson Heights Road will also be considerd by the board

The Plymouth Board of Public Works will award several contracts for the wastewater treatment plant improvement project when they meet this evening. Bids were opened and taken under advisement two weeks ago for the Ledyard Water Treatment Plant, water main extension and Ledyard Water Treatment Plant storage building. The board will also approve the signing of contracts with Midwestern Engineers for the project. Continue reading

The Plymouth Board of Public Works received an update on what is needed to preserve the historic firehouse on Center Street.
Brent Martin from SRKM said the building was built in 1875 and renovated in 1993. When the contractors renovated the building, they sealed the brick in such a way that the condensation could not expel from the interior part of the structure that caused them to deteriorate. The trapped water also froze and expanded that caused even further damage.

The Plymouth Board of Works members approved several quotes for new pieces of equipment for the utility department.
A half-ton truck quote for $25,540 was approved from Country Auto for the wastewater department. The alternate for $1,150 for a built-in toolbox was also approved for the truck.
A chassis in the amount of $26,435 from Oliver Ford and the service body for $11,465 from WA Jones was unanimously approved. The deal includes a trade-in value. A quote for a one-ton truck for the street department was approved for $24,015 from Oliver Ford.

The Plymouth Police Department will soon add two new 2016 pursuit-rated, all-wheel drive SUVs to its fleet. The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety approved Police Chief David Bacon’s request to purchase those vehicles from Oliver Ford when they met Monday evening. Continue reading
