U.S. 30 Freeway Plan Discussed with Marshall County Residents
The proposed upgrade of U.S. 30 to freeway standards was discussed with Marshall County residents Tuesday. The project would remove stoplights and at-grade intersections. Instead, the only way to get across U.S. 30 would be at an overpass, and the only way to get on would be at an interchange.
Public Meeting on Proposed U.S. 30 Freeway Project to be Held Tomorrow
Marshall County residents can learn more about efforts to upgrade U.S. 30 to freeway standards, during a public meeting tomorrow in Plymouth. James Turnwald with the Michiana Area Council of Governments is expected to share information on the project. Residents will also have a chance to ask questions.
Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety Members Receive Tentative List of Sidewalks for the ADA Transition Plan
A tentative list of proposed sidewalk projects for Plymouth’s ADA Transition plan was presented at the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting earlier this week.
Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt explained that the list is currently incomplete because he intends to meet with a representative from Michiana Area Council of Governments (MACOG). Together, they will assess the status of the walkways within the city and determine which areas are not in compliance with ADA specifications.
For the time being, he presented members with some sidewalks that are noticeably in need of upgrades. Continue reading
Marshall County Commissioners Take Care of Remaining Appointments During Tuesday Meeting
The Marshall County Commissioners addressed any remaining appointments when they met on Tuesday.
Randy Glingle and Dan Vories were appointed to the Drainage Board, Jan Fisher will serve on the Alcohol Beverage Control Board and Commissioner Kevin Overymyer was appointed to the Central Dispatch Committee as well as the Michiana Area Council of Governments or MACOG.
For the MACOG Regional Development Board, Joe Martin, Jr. was appointed as the private sector representative and Trend Weldy will serve as the Town of Bremen’s rep.
Commissioner Kurt Garner was appointed to the Unsafe Building Committee and the Shady Rest Committee. Continue reading
Marshall County Commissioners Approve Brownfield Coalition
More Brownfield grants will be sought after for properties in the Marshall County area, but the entity going after the grant will be the Michiana Area Council of Governments (MACOG).
A brownfield is a property previously used for industrial purposes or some commercial uses. It may have been contaminated with hazardous waste and the Brownfield Grant helped assess those properties and plan clean up strategies.
Bourbon Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee Holds Open House
The Bourbon Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee held an open house last night to gather public opinion on the proposed Envision Bourbon 2030 Comprehensive Plan.
The plan covers several elements including population, housing and neighborhood conditions, economy and labor force trends, land use, roads and utilities infrastructure, public facilities, and protection of natural and cultural resources.
Safe Routes to School Project to begin in Plymouth Today
The Safe Routes to School project on Baker Street by the Plymouth schools.
New sidewalks, curbs and gutters will be installed to allow for a better walking path for students on their way to the schools. The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety previously approved a bid for just over $300,000 for the project. The city’s share of that is approximately $61,000.
City Engineer Rick Gaul and Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt are going to stress that the contractors from Northern Indiana Contractors stay off the street while they’re working or else they won’t get much done. They will be able to work off the side of the street. Gaul said rush hour traffic in the morning and afternoon may delay the project if the crews don’t heed the advice.
Traffic Study Planned on Two Intersections
Plymouth City Engineer Rick Gaul will be working with Michiana Area Council of Governments (MACOG) to conduct a traffic study Columbus Drive and Baker Street.
Gaul said MACOG officials will help determine if the intersection is in need of a traffic flow change.
Argos Comprehensive Plan Looks to Balance Growth with Small-Town Values
The Town of Argos hopes to fix dilapidated buildings, promote active transportation, and revitalize its downtown, all while maintaining its small-town values over the next decade. The town is putting the finishing touches on its 2030 Comprehensive Plan.
