Marshall County Prepares for Truck Lease Purchases Following Financing Approval

The Marshall County Highway Department is moving ahead with financing for the lease purchase of new trucks.

Earlier this year, the county was approached by Republic First National Bank to discuss lease financing for road maintenance equipment. The Marshall County Commissioners at the time stated they were used to purchasing equipment at the highway department outright.

Bulk Purchaser Pitches County on Jail Food Cost Savings

Marshall County may be able to save money when purchasing food for county jail inmates.

The county contracts with Gordon Food Service to obtain the necessary supplies to feed those residing inside the jail. An analysis conducted last month on food purchasing invoices led a Michigan-based non-profit to develop solutions.

Marshall County Community Corrections Aims for Additional Grant Dollars

The Marshall County Community Corrections Department is hoping to garner some additional revenue to better fund services in the department.

During Monday’s Marshall County Commissioner’s meeting, it was learned that the Indiana Department of Corrections is allocating grant dollars for the departments at the county-level in fiscal year 2017. Community Corrections Director Ward Byers says they’ll be seeking $33-thousand.

Marshall Commissioners Work to Keep Lake of the Woods Road Operating

Marshall County has declared a section of road in Lake of the Woods an emergency in a push to repair the issues causing damage.

It was learned Monday morning that the Marshall County Highway Department believes pipes running under a drain outlet along West Lakeshore Drive in Lake of the Woods has caused a sinkhole in the area.

Culver Signs Central Dispatch Agreement

culver-town-hallThe Town of Culver has agreed to sign a contract with Marshall County to provide dispatch services to the community.

It was decided earlier this year that Marshall County would share the cost burden with its local communities and Townships given the cost of new equipment. A board has been formed to oversee the centralized dispatch service and determine its usage and cost sharing methods.

Marshall County Considers Alternative Payments for Building Permits

Marshall County will be investigating alternative methods of payment for building permits.

During Monday morning’s meeting, Plan Director Ralph Booker and Building Commissioner Chuck DeWitt explained the reasons behind offering methods of payment in addition to cash, check, and credit card.
