Bicentennial Torch Ready for Appearance Tuesday in Marshall County

Indiana Bicentennial logoThe Bicentennial Torch Relay comes through Marshall County Tuesday afternoon with each community celebrating in its own unique way.

Indiana’s 200th birthday has brought a host of official bicentennial events to mark the occasion. Extensive planning throughout the year has ensured the torch makes it through all 92 of Indiana’s counties.

Marshall County Tourism Executive Director Cori Holzwart-Humes says Marshall County is stop number 66 on the route.

“Marshall County had the opportunity of having 20 torchbearers represent the county and the torch being ran by those torchbearers, nominated by the citizens of the community and selected by them as well to run through Marshall County by walk, by car, we have several different ways it’s being traveled: by boat,” says Holzwart-Humes.

The torch has set out on a 3,200 mile journey that started in Corydon on September 9th and will wrap-up in Indianapolis in the middle of this month.

Activities will commence in Downtown Plymouth between 4:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. EDT with a coloring contest and balloon artist for the kids. Live music, food, and the “Bicentennial Experience” traveling museum will also be part of the activities.

Each community the torch passes through will have separate ceremonies to recognize the bicentennial. Holzwart-Humes says that while Plymouth is hosting the  big party, there are other opportunities to see the torch.

“There are several smaller ceremonies set-up between the legs in Bremen, in Plymouth, and in Culver. Depending on where you’re at, you can view the torch at any time really just depending on where you live or when you would like to join,” says Holzwart-Humes.

The torch will make its way into Fulton County on Wednesday. The torch will come to Marshall County from Elkhart County on Tuesday morning.
