The Marshall County Health Department has issued a news release about a potential measles exposure that reportedly occurred during the month of March. Measles is a highly contagious virus that is found in the nose and throat secretions of an infected person.
According to the MCHD, the Indiana Health Alert Network shared that a confirmed measles exposure has been identified in Indianapolis. An individual that was travelling through Indiana was later found to be a confirmed measles case.

A few chances to learn to use the potentially life-saving drug Narcan are being offered by the Marshall County Health Department this week. Training sessions will be held today at 11:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the Community Resource Center in Plymouth. Health board member Tracy Fox told the Culver Town Council last week that a third training has been scheduled for this Thursday at 5:00 p.m. at the Culver Beach Lodge.
Spike in Drug Overdoses Seen in Marshall County Last Weekend
A spike in drug overdoses over the Thanksgiving weekend has the Marshall County Health Department urging residents to learn to use the overdose reversal drug Narcan. A total of seven overdose events were reported in Marshall County last Saturday and Sunday, according to the Indiana State Department of Health Overdose Surveillance Team. None of them were fatal.
Closed POD Approved for the Town of Culver
The Culver Town Council approved a request from the Marshall County Health Department to host a closed POD (Point of Dispensing) for medication disbursement in the town.
Hepatitis Testing Available at Marshall County Health Department
The Marshall County Health Department has free screening available for Hepatitis C.
According to Marshall County Health Department Administrator Christine Stinson, Hepatitis C can be acute or chronic. Acute hepatitis infection symptoms include nausea, vomiting, weight loss, abdominal pain, and jaundice. Chronic hepatitis C can last a lifetime with no visible symptoms. It can lead to cirrhosis of the liver or liver cancer.
Stinson invites Marshall County residents to get a free screening in the health department office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The test is simple and only takes 20 minutes to get results. No appointment is necessary.
The Marshall County Health Department is located in the Community Resource Center at 510 West Adams Street in Plymouth.
Free Narcan Training Class to be Held by the Marshall County Health Department Tonight
The U.S Surgeon General and former Indiana State Health Commissioner Dr. Jerome Adams recently issued an advisory recommending that more Americans carry the opioid overdose-reversing drug, naloxone otherwise known as Narcan.
The Marshall County Health Department has been offering free community Narcan training throughout the month of April and tonight is your final chance to attend one of these life-saving classes. Vaccinations Available at Marshall County Health Department
The Marshall County Health Department is partnering with Vaxcare to provide vaccinations for most individuals in the county.
According to Public Health Nurse Lisa Letsinger, the partnership allows the county to reach its goal of serving everyone and boosting the county’s immunization rates.
Well Water Samples Due Today
Well water samples need to be returned today by 8:30 a.m.
The Marshall County Health Department is offering this free service to those who have experienced flood damage. Health Administrator Christine Stinson says flooding around a well can contaminate the well water and the casing of the well. That can lead to viruses and bacteria that could lead to illnesses.
