Argos Officials Discuss Extreme Safety Hazard at the Intersection of SR 10 and US 31

Officials in the Town of Argos are working to address a dangerous intersection where accidents happen frequently. Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney reports that just over the last two weeks, nine accidents that resulted in a total of twelve injuries occurred at the intersection of SR 10 and US 31.

“There are just a lot of accidents and a lot of people being hurt.” She explained, “In the past two weeks we’ve had at least three helicopters flown to that scene.”

Mullaney said the matter was addressed during Wednesday’s Town Council meeting, as council members plan to reach out to multiple resources to get something done about this safety hazard. Continue reading

INDOT Closes Section of State Road 17 For Chip and Sealing Operations

Starting today, Culver residents and commuters should be prepared for an ongoing road closure on State Road 17.

The Indiana Department of Transportation announced that State Road 17 in Marshall County will be closed between State Road 8 and State Road 10 as crews perform chip sealing operations. The work will begin today and that section of road is expected to reopen by the end of the day on Friday, June 22. Continue reading

Commissioners Receive Update About Marshall County Council on Aging

Marshall County Commissioners recently heard a presentation from Jackie Wright with the Marshall County Council on Aging.

Wright came before the commissioners previously to obtain permission to apply for public transit funds from INDOT. At that time, she was asked to gather some more specific details and come back to another meeting.

Commissioner Kevin Overmyer noted that one reason she was asked to return is because the County will soon be preparing their budget and since an $8,000 donation is provided to the Council on Aging annually, he just wanted the commissioners to hear a bit of an update organization’s operations. Annual Operation Report for Local Roads and Streets Considered by Plymouth City Council

The 2017 annual Operations Report for Local Roads and Streets was submitted to Plymouth City Council members Monday night.

Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt and City Engineer Rick Gaul completed the documents and submitted them to the council for consideration. Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver explained that this report has to be submitted annually since the city receives funding from the Indiana Department of Transportation. Continue reading

U.S. 30 Freeway Plan Discussed with Marshall County Residents

Transportation Consultant Dennis Faulkenberg discusses the need for the U.S. 30 freeway project with Marshall County residents.

The proposed upgrade of U.S. 30 to freeway standards was discussed with Marshall County residents Tuesday. The project would remove stoplights and at-grade intersections. Instead, the only way to get across U.S. 30 would be at an overpass, and the only way to get on would be at an interchange.

Grant Fund for Historic Structure Established at Plymouth City Council Meeting

The Plymouth City Council held the final readings over an ordinance to establish a grant fund for a historic bridge when members met last Monday.

The Indiana Department of Transportation recently awarded the City of Plymouth a little more than $1.3 million to conduct future renovation work on the East La Porte Street Footbridge over the Yellow River.

With INDOT footing the bill for a good portion of the $2 million dollar project, only approximately $800,000 will need to come from the city. Continue reading

Public Hearing Held on Bremen Downtown Renovation Project

The Bremen Town Council members held a public hearing Monday night concerning the town’s plan to apply for a grant for the downtown renovation project.

The town is going to apply for a $40,000 planning grant which will be matched by the town in the amount of $4,500. A $1.5 million grant through the Office of Community and Rural Affairs is also in the works. The town’s match for that project is $500,000. Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy said a lot is planned for this project that will begin in a couple of years.

INDOT Announces the Stretch of SR 331 in Marshall County That Closed Back In February Has Reopened

The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced that State Road 331, between 9th Road and 10th Road in Marshall County, has reopened.

Organization representatives stated that the stretch of road was closed back in February due to damage caused by the historic rainfall and flooding that hit the entire Northwest District of INDOT. Maintenance crews were able to expedite a project in order to fix the roadway. Continue reading
