Culver Town Council to Add Clarifications to Golf Cart Ordinance

 

Culver’s golf cart ordinance may soon be getting some clarifications. An amended ordinance was presented for first reading during last week’s town council meeting, by Council President Ginny Bess Munroe. “Basically, nothing is changing,” she explained. “We are clarifying our ordinance because we find that when we try to enforce it, people don’t have an understanding of the fact that you shouldn’t have a four-year-old driving your golf cart. So we’ve added some language here, throughout this.”

Marshall County Golf Ordinance Will Not Change

The Marshall County Commissioners decided keep the requirement in the current golf cart ordinance that requires them to be operated only on roads that have a 35 mph speed limit or less.

Michelle Bachtel and her husband previously asked the commissioners to rescind the speed limit requirement and allow them to be driven on all roads. During that same meeting, the commissioners discussed that the speed limit was included in the ordinance for safety purposes. The initial thought was to keep the slow moving vehicles off of roads that have increased speed as a safety precaution.

Marshall County Resident Takes Golf Cart Ordinance Issue to Commissioners

Michelle Bachtel was before the Marshall County Commissioners on Monday morning to ask that the speed limit be omitted from the golf cart ordinance.

She made this request as she drives her golf cart on county roads to access her farm ground on the north side and the south side of U.S. 30 in the Inwood community. She was stopped by a Marshall County deputy who informed her that she could not operate the golf cart on the road. Bachtel explained to the commissioners that the ordinance allows the operation of golf carts on roads that have a posted speed limit of 35 mph or less and the road she utilized that day had a posted speed of 30 mph.
