In 2017, there were more than 90 fireworks-related injuries that were almost similar to the ones fund injured in a car accident, reported in Indianan on the Fourth of July, with one third of those involving someone under the age of 18. With the level of injuries increasing it is up to the people and government to set up a few rules in the usage of fireworks. The Bourbon Fire Department will be hosting the annual “Summerfest” on Saturday, August 11th and Sunday August 12th.
When Bourbon Town Council members met earlier this month, Fire Chief Mike Chapman alerted them about the dates for Summerfest and stated that a fireworks display will be held the evening of August 11th.

Fireworks are one way of celebrating during the Fourth of July season and it’s important that consumers follow the laws.
Indiana State Fire Marshal Jim Greeson said state law allows fireworks to be legally ignited from June 29 to July 3 from 5 p.m. local time until two hours after sunset and on July 4 from 10 a.m. to midnight. The use of fireworks is also allowed July 5-July 9 from 5 p.m. until two hours after sunset. Check local ordinances as dates and times may vary.
Fireworks may be used on the user’s property, on property with the owner’s consent or at a locally identified discharge location.
As the Fourth of July approaches, so does the season for firework-related injuries, according to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security. Last year, over 70 percent of firework-related injuries occurred during the first week of July.

Fireworks at the Marshall County Blueberry Festival were again up for discussion during Wednesday’s special session of the Plymouth Common Council. Last month, the Common Council voted to give the festival an additional $25,000 for this year’s fireworks, after festival organizers asked the city to fund the upgrades in recognition of the Blueberry Festival’s 50th anniversary. The Marshall County Blueberry Festival will have a larger fireworks display this year, thanks to the City of Plymouth. Members of the Plymouth Common Council Monday voted to give the festival $25,000 for upgrades to this year’s fireworks. That’s in addition to the $39,000 already budgeted for fireworks by the festival’s organizers. Continue reading
