Argos Town Council to Create Fireworks Ordinance

The residents in the Town of Argos are tired of listening to fireworks.

Ruth Milliser asked the Argos Town Council members Wednesday night to consider an ordinance on the regulation of fireworks in town as it has become a nuisance.

“I think we have a fireworks issue here in town.  It started back on June 5 and is continuing on even today and I’m tired of it,” stated Milliser.  “It’s the big boom ones that are driving me crazy and my dogs are scared to death.”

Those who were there to voice opinions said that they don’t have any problems with fireworks on the Fourth of July, but it is the use of fireworks weeks leading up to the Fourth of July and the weeks following the holiday that they feel is a problem.

Judy Richards, who used to work with Mad Bombers, said there are several fireworks being discharged in town that are illegal and agrees that there needs to be a regulation.

Council member Shawn Harley commented that it has reached the breaking point with him as well after a three-inch Firebomb recently discharged.

Harley stated, “It made a big, bright flash before you ever heard the boom.  I will say that the repercussions from that shell cost me two windows in my house.  I now have two windows that have broken seals. I now have moisture in between my windows from that shell.”

The Argos Town Council members agreed that a fireworks ordinance should be implemented.

Several town ordinances were presented to the council members that list different regulations concerning the regulation of fireworks within a municipality.  Town Attorney Derek Jones will look through the ordinances to see what can best fit the Town of Argos and present a draft ordinance at a future meeting.
