A groundbreaking ceremony is set for today to officially welcome the Aquatics Center and Early Childhood Learning Center to Plymouth.
The Plymouth Redevelopment Commission members learned this week that paperwork to narrow down the guaranteed maximum price for the Aquatics Center is being finalized. The price for the Early Childhood Learning Center is already determined. The price has been agreed upon to properly close out the paperwork concerning the new market tax credits paperwork.
Plymouth City Council members held the first readings over two ordinances that would establish funds related to the major projects on Miller Drive when they met for their final meeting in May.
The city recently sold two bonds that generated approximately $6.6 million dollars for these projects.
As previously reported, the projects on Miller Drive will include the construction of a 10-lane indoor pool facility, a new building for the Marshall County Community Foundation offices and an early childhood learning center. Plymouth Board of Public Works members considered an economic development agreement for the Aquatics Center and Early Childhood Learning Center project when they met last Monday.
City Attorney Sean Surrisi explained that the agreement sets up the terms of obligation for the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation entities, also referred to as the developers, to build the facilities with the money that’s being provided by all the different sources.
He said the agreement already went before the Redevelopment Commission at their last meeting where it was approved. He also explained the why the agreement needed to come before the board members as well. Continue reading
The final readings over the ordinance that establishes funding for the major projects planned on Miller Drive near the Lifeplex Fitness Center, took place during Monday evening’s Plymouth City Council meeting.
As previously reported, the City Council and Redevelopment Commission are working with the Marshall County Economic Development Foundation on planning and developing few different projects, including an Early Childhood Learning Center and an Aquatics Center.
MCEDF Executive Director and CEO Jerry Chavez said these projects are expected enhance the quality of life and quality of place within the city.
Back in February members held the first reading over the “Ordinance Authorizing the City of Plymouth to Issue Its Taxable Economic Development Revenue Bonds and Notes: Series A, B & C.” When city council members met Monday evening, they held the second and third readings but not before receiving a bit of a refresher about the purpose of the ordinance. The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members plan on opening bids for surface treatment spring projects and street and sidewalk projects when they meet tonight. The board members will also consider a conditional offer of employment for a paramedic position and a request to release partial retainage funds for Kokosing Industrial for work done on the wastewater treatment facility.
The board will meet at 6 p.m. tonight followed by the Plymouth City Council meeting.
