Roundabout Planned Near Aquatic Center, Early Childhood Learning Center

The roadway near the new Aquatic Center and Early Childhood Learning Center in Plymouth will include a roundabout as construction continues.

Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt brought up the issue to the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members this week.  The traffic change would occur near the east side of the property on Miller Drive.

“It has a big cul-de-sac or roundabout-type road there.  When it was put in it was striped with a line down it and it was supposed to be two-way traffic.  We’ve always kind of looked at that and thought that once things get busy down there with truck traffic or anything it would be kind of tight.  Then you’d have to have a couple of stop signs within that circle where it would come back out on Miller.  So, we’d like to sign it as a roundabout and it would just be traffic to the right only.  I do feel that would work better,” said Marquardt.

The board members agreed, but the change won’t happen until later in the construction aspect of the project.

Also, no parking signs will be posted on either side of the road on Miller Drive as parking lots will be available for that purpose.

The board members approved a motion for both traffic changes with a unanimous vote.
