Indiana Secretary of State Opposes Extending Deadline to Return Mail-In Ballots

Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson is not in favor of extending the deadline for mail-in ballots to make it back to county clerk’s offices, in spite of concerns that thousands of votes could go uncounted. “There are 92 counties in this state, and we cannot change deadlines because somebody is too busy or whether it’s lack of preparation of getting the work done,” Lawson said during state officials’ COVID-19 press conference Friday. “So deadlines are there for security and accountability.”

Federal Funding May Boost Remote Learning Opportunities for Indiana Schools

State officials haven’t made any decisions yet about how schools will reopen, but they are looking to use federal funding to boost remote learning opportunities. During state officials’ COVID-19 briefing Wednesday, Office of Management and Budget Director Chris Johnston said the state is applying for money from the federal Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund.

Marshall, Pulaski County COVID-19 Numbers on Upward Trend

The number of positive Marshall County COVID-19 cases is now up to 80, which is an increase of six from Tuesday’s report from the Indiana State Department of Health.  Pulaski County reported an additional positive case which inched that total to 40.  Starke County remains at 31 cases.  The numbers are reflective of the total number of cases recorded beginning in March.
