Another 14 Marshall County residents have tested positive, according to Sunday’s report from the Indiana State Department of Health, bringing the county’s total up to 659. Starke County had four new positive cases for a total of 134. Pulaski County’s total increased by one to 68.

Bremen Public Schools students will be required to wear face masks but just for short periods of time. “If you’re going to ride a bus, you’re going to wear a mask, and then when the students are in common areas, they need face coverings, as well,” explains Superintendent Dr. Jim White. “Once they get to their classrooms, they can take them off.”

This year’s Bremen Firemen’s Festival has been canceled due to COVID-19 concerns. The Bremen Firemen’s Association says it had initially planned to postpone the event from its usual dates in June, but in the end, the association didn’t think it could “adhere to the strict guidelines provided by the State of Indiana to safely have our festival.”

Many of the funds Marshall County officials are spending in response to COVID-19 are expected to be reimbursed, according to Marshall County Commission President Kevin Overmyer. He told the Marshall County Council members on Monday that Barnes and Thornburg officials are processing claims through representatives of the Indiana Finance Authority (IFA) who determines if it is a valid expense for reimbursement.
