The Marshall County Council has decided to give the go ahead for a project that could bring millions to the region.
In conjunction with Michiana Partnership, the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation advised the creation of a Regional Development Authority. The RDA would be formed along with St. Joseph and Elkhart counties in the pursuit of state grant funds.

The Culver Town Council will be further discussing its water plant project during a meeting, tonight.
The Town Council has been working for some time on the upgrades to its water treatment facility, but is still under deadline for funding options. Facility upgrades are going to be largely funded from bonds issued to the state’s revolving fund.
Indiana’s Senate Democrats are gearing up for the 2015 summer study committees.
Among the topics is replacing ISTEP with a new state standardized educational assessment. Typically the summer study sessions indicate some of the top issues legislators may consider in the next legislative session.
Work on Plymouth’s Ledyard Water Treatment Plant can begin after action last night by the city’s board of works. Bids for the project awarded at their last meeting were contingent on financing, which has been successfully completed. Continue reading
Effective Wednesday, June 10 Plymouth School Corporation gains a new Director of Safety and Security. Formerly the School Resource Officer, Ted Brown is replacing Jim Phillips who served as Director of Safety and Security for the past two years. Brown is a Plymouth High School Graduate who has coached football for the past 15 years. Continue reading
A South Bend man was transported to the hospital after allegedly crashing his vehicle in Marshall County.
Authorities say the incident happened on Fir Road just north of 7th Road on Sunday morning. 29-year-old Brandon Clay was traveling Southbound when his vehicle left the right side of the roadway.
A Michigan man was taken into custody on Sunday night after police say he was driving while intoxicated.
Around 11:45 p.m. on U.S. 30 in Marshall County, officers observed a vehicle traveling westbound in excess of 90 miles per hour. A traffic stop was conducted near the Grovertown Truckstop.

During Monday morning’s meeting, the Council will consider forming a Regional Development Authority. The partnership would be formed in conjunction with St. Joseph and Elkhart counties.
Families are encouraged to take a stroll through the Culver Town Park and enjoy a story. Officials with the Culver-Union Township Public Library cut the ribbon on the StoryWalk along Lake Maxinkuckee on Saturday. The idea originated in Vermont. Culver-Union Township Public Library Youth Services Director Jill Gavlick says the library board and staff was looking for a special way to celebrate the centennial and came across the idea by doing a Google search. During Monday’s Marshall County Commissioners meeting, Highway Department Staff provided updates on this year’s road projects, including about $180-thousand spent this year that is not included in the project list.

Phase One of the renovation to St. Joseph Regional Hospital in Plymouth is now complete.
The Health System is undertaking an extensive two-part construction project. Phase One oversaw the expansion of the Emergency Department – which now sits at a comfortable 8-thousand square feet.
The community of Culver is celebrating the 100th birthday of its Carnegie Library with the ribbon cutting of an exhibit designed to keep future generations excited about reading. The town’s StoryWalk consists of 18 stations along Lake Maxinkuckee in the community park. Each houses a different laminated page from a children’s storybook to encourage families to stroll through the park share a story. The Culver-Union Township Public Library and Culver Park Board teamed up on the project. The first book is “The Ice Cream Hotel” by local author Jack Johnston. StoryWalk books in the Park will change every two weeks from June through September. Continue reading
The grand opening won’t be held until later this year, but renovations on Phase One of Freedom Park in Plymouth are nearing completion.
Upgrades at the park started a few years ago when a group of citizens wanted to consider the possibility of the City of Plymouth having its first all-inclusive playground. Fundraisers were conducted, allowing the group to raise enough money for the City of Plymouth to begin contributing.

A local police department is raising money for a new K9. The Bremen Police Department’s existing drug and tracking dog, Quido, is seven years old and on the downhill side of his service with the department. He joined the force in 2011, and has been involved in nearly 100 narcotic arrests. Quido has also helped to track fugitives and locate missing persons. Continue reading
