Yellow River Festival is This Weekend in Plymouth

The Yellow River Festival in Plymouth will feature art, music, food, crafts and history this Saturday and Sunday in River Park Square.

This year’s featured town is Argos and representatives will be offering history of the community throughout the event.

The Yellow River Festival officially opens Saturday, June 3 at 10 a.m. with the welcome given by the Plymouth speech team. Randy Danielson will have information about the Rees Theater at noon on Saturday and Greg Champion will speak at 12:30 p.m. Other guests on the educational, entertainment and history stage include Kalita who is the master of magic and escape, The Rose Hips, Dr. Quackenbush, Abe Lincoln, Lights Out radio mystery, Fascinating Rhythm and more.

Rep. Walorski to Present Jobs and Veterans Resource Fair Tomorrow in Mishawaka

Job-seekers have a chance to meet with representatives from 55 employers during a job fair tomorrow in Mishawaka. It will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Bethel College Wiekamp Athletic Center. First Wave of Free Concerts Announced for Indiana State Fair

If your summer plans include a trip to the Indiana State Fair, you may want to schedule it around the free nightly concerts. Fair officials have announced the first five of 17 shows that will be part of the Chevrolet Silverado Free Stage headline entertainment during the fair, which runs Aug. 4-20, 2017. Public Hearing Set for Plymouth Superintendent’s Contract

A hearing is scheduled for tomorrow to hear public comment on the next superintendent’s contract at the Plymouth Community School Corporation.

The contract calls for an annual salary of $120,000 with an annual board contribution to group health/dental/vision insurance premium in the amount of $23,285. An annuity would come to $7,200 with life insurance of $374.40 a year. Gasoline allowance would be estimated at $3,500 with a $600 phone allowance.

Marshall County Officials Set to Attend INDOT Meeting

Officials from the Indiana Department of Transportation will hold a meeting at the La Porte District office to inform city, town and county officials about how to utilize the Community Crossings Local Road and Bridge Matching Grant Fund. More specific information will be given about projects eligible for funding, how to submit projects for matching funds, deadlines for project submissions, timelines for distributing funds and development of an asset manager plan.

Concrete Work to Begin in Plymouth Today

E&B Paving will be working on a portion of the proposed microsurfacing project beginning today.

The company will be completing the concrete portion of the project which includes the removal and replacement of curbs, sidewalks and ramps.

Oakhill Avenue will have the most work done at the railroad crossing and at the intersections of Elm Street, Rose and Nursery Street, Lincoln Street, Pearl Street and Thayer Street. The intersection of Jefferson and Beerenbrook Street will also have work done.

STEM Teacher Training Grants Available from Indiana Commission for Higher Education

Organizations working to help train teachers in the science, technology, engineering, and math fields can apply for a share of nearly $10 million from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. The goal of the state’s STEM Teacher Recruitment Fund is to prepare and retain educators in Indiana public schools where there are shortages of STEM teachers.  Continue reading

Plymouth City Council Considers Commercial Revitalization Rebate

The Plymouth City Council entertained a request from David Fortin from The Very Nice People business downtown for a revitalization project.

“We want to reroof the building that is at 101 N. Michigan Street,” said Fortin. “It’s on the northwest corner of the intersection of Michigan and La Porte Street immediately across from the Rees Theater. We have two quotes and the lower one was $63,480.”

Marshall County Museum to Present Unique Exhibit in June

The Marshall County Museum will feature another exhibit to keep motors running during the P-town Cruz’n event in downtown Plymouth.

The Indiana Historical Society Auto Indiana “History on Wheels” exhibit is a state of the art traveling interactive exhibit. The 53-foot trailer houses Indiana’s automotive heritage through touch screen displays. The history of auto racing, the industry itself and modern manufacturing are just a few of the lessons provided in this unique educational presentation.

Culver Redevelopment Commission to Meet in Special Session Today

The Culver Redevelopment Commission (CRC) will meet today to discuss the Sand Hill Farms workforce housing.

The Culver Town Council members made their decision on two resolutions this week and the CRC is expected to discuss the same resolutions during their meeting today. The town council members voted 4-1 to approve a resolution to authorize funding of the project. A separate resolution was approved 4-1 to enter into an agreement between the Town of Culver and Sand Hill Farms, Inc. for the development of the project.

Bremen Lift Station Project to Move Forward

The Bremen Town Council agreed to move ahead on the project to upgrade the town’s lift stations in the spring 2018.

The plan and design phase is the next step. The council members took action to get that paperwork started this week with the hopes of bidding out the project in November or December. A bid could be awarded in January.

According to Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy, the Bremen Redevelopment Commission previously guaranteed the funds for the lift station project. The anticipated cost is around $1 million to $1.5 million.
