Plymouth School Board Considers Additional Services, Debt Refinance
The Plymouth School Corporation is preparing to make a few changes to both its finances and curriculum.
During Tuesday night’s regularly scheduled meeting, School Board members will consider adopting curricula recommended for social studies courses. Typically, committees review the available options for some time prior to introducing the curriculum for students.

South Bend Man Arrested After Traffic Stop
A South Bend man’s heavy foot landed him in jail after a traffic stop in Marshall County last Thursday. A county police officer pulled over a car driven by Isaac A. Fisch, 20, on U.S. 31 north of 11th Road for driving 75 in a 60 mile-per-hour zone. The arrest report indicates Fisch was found to be in possession of drugs.
Marshall County Reviews Regional Cities Initiative
The Marshall County Commissioners will meet this morning and economic development could be considered.
Jerry Chavez with Marshall County Economic Development will be speaking on the Regional Cities Initiative. Many communities have signed onto the initiative as part of a broader effort to grow the state’s population.
Culver Finalizing Goals for Coming Years
The Town of Culver is finalizing its five-year action plan.
The document will be included in the Town’s Comprehensive plan and specifies major projects the Town would like to undertake over the next few years. A joint group, consisting of the Town Council, Plan Commission, and Redevelopment Commission has been meeting on a regular basis to develop the goals.

Historians Discuss Plans for Lincoln Highway Byway
Representatives of the Indiana Lincoln Highway Association met with local historians last week in LaPorte to develop a coordinated plan for the development of a Lincoln Highway “byway.” The “byway” is the route U.S. 30 took when it was first developed in 1913 and then rerouted in 1928. The 1928 update of the highway (old U.S. 30) brought it through Hamlet and Grovertown in northern Starke County.
Legislative Action Provides Tax Relief for Farmers
Farmland owners will enjoy significant tax relief in 2016 thanks to action by the Indiana General Assembly. Senate Bill 436 freezes the base rate for farm ground at $2,050 per acre. Trail Events Statewide During National Trails Day
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is encouraging hiking, riding, and other activities next weekend.
Saturday June 6th is National Trails Day and the DNR is celebrating by offering clean-ups, hikes, and other events at several state parks. The state is largely using the event to open several trails at a park in Indianapolis, but events are still being offered around Indiana.
Motorist and Motorcycle Rider Injured in U.S. 31 Crash
A Rochester woman and an Argos man were injured in a three-vehicle Friday morning crash on U.S. 31 at Michigan Road. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office was notified around 11:45 a.m., according to a news release. A PT Cruiser driven by Sierra Winters, 26, of Argos, was northbound in the right lane of U.S. 31 near 12B Road and crossed over the left passing lane in front of a motorcycle driven by Brody Townsend, 21, of Rochester. Townsend’s Harley-Davidson struck the back of Winters’ car. The crash report indicates he was thrown from the bike and came to rest just north of the intersection. Continue reading
