Marshall County now has representation on a board that hopes to attract and retain population in Northern Indiana.
A Regional Development Authority has been formed in Marshall County, along with St. Joseph and Elkhart counties to oversee potential grant funds of $42-million over two years. It’s part of the Regional Cities Initiative overseen by the state which has identified population loss as a threat to economic growth.

Summer Safety – Temperatures Inside Cars Can Easily Exceed 100 Degrees
During the coming months, summer temperatures are expected to soar. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration likes to annually remind care-givers of small children to never leave a child unattended in a vehicle. They reported in this contact form that on a 60 degree day temperatures inside a locked car can get well above 100 degrees very quickly. On hotter days that get up into the 80s and 90s outside, temperatures in a car can be a dangerous 130 to 160 degrees within minutes. These conditions are obviously incredibly dangerous to young children who can potentially die when their bodies temperatures exceed 107 degrees. Traffic Stop Leads to Meth Discovery
A vehicle stopped in Plymouth on Friday led to the discovery of methamphetamine.
42-year-old Roger Runyon of South Bend was driving on US 30 around 10:00 p.m. when officers stopped his vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that Runyon was wanted on a warrant out of Fulton County for Failure to Appear in court.

A deadline for candidates seeking office in Starke and Marshall County has finally arrived.
Candidates seeking a position in both Plymouth and Bremen are expected to submit the necessary paperwork to declare their candidacy by noon today. According to the Marshall County Clerk of the Court’s office, communities hosting a Town Convention, such as Argos, have a slightly different candidate filing deadline of August 3rd.

IDHS Offers Fireworks Safety Tips
The Indiana Department of Homeland has developed a few tips to ensure safety during Independence Day celebrations.
IDHS says fireworks can be purchased by persons 18 years of age or older. To ensure safety, however, it’s considered best to buy the items at licensed dealer locations. State Fire Marshal Jim Greeson says despite safety precautions, structure fires can certainly be started by their misuse.

A few more candidates have thrown their names into a possible list of candidates for political office.
According to the Marshall County Clerk’s office, two Democrats have filed to run in November’s General Municipal Election. The candidates are only allowed to do so if a vacancy exists, but were facing a deadline of July 6th at noon to put their names on the ballot.

New Laws Effective Wednesday
Legislation that allows Indiana residents to legally own a sawed-off shotgun takes effect, today.
Senate Bill 433 is one of several changes to Indiana law made by the General Assembly earlier this year. The bill repeals a prohibition on owning a sawed-off shotgun so long as the weapon is developed by a licensed manufacturer.
