A lifelong Hamlet resident is the grand marshal for this year’s Yellowstone Trail Festival Parade. Jim Cooley is known as the Hamlet Inventor. He’s been tinkering since his teenage years, when he worked at Jones’ Repair Shop. Cooley did body work, mechanical repairs, painting and whatever else needed done on a vehicle. The organization held its first ever “Cops and Bobbers” event on Saturday. The gathering was designed to take children around the age of 10-years-old fishing while providing a bit of education about what law enforcement does.

State Fire Marshal Informs Hoosiers About Fireworks Laws
As Independence Day draws near, the State Fire Marshal’s office is reminding Hoosiers about fireworks laws currently on the books.
In Indiana, the person setting off the fireworks may be held liable for damage to any property. In addition, fireworks are only allowed to be discharged on the owner’s property, or on the property of someone who has consented to it. Some communities may have specially designated areas for fireworks usage.
Dairy Trail Brings Farm Facts to Northern Indiana Region
The Marshall County Economic Development Corporation is recognizing a bit of recent progress. That includes an event being held today called the Dairy Trail. MCEDC says the six-county region encompassing Elkhart, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Marshall, Noble and St. Joseph counties has more dairy farms than any other part of the state. Continue reading
Culver School Board Gets Update on Summer Food Program
The Culver Community Schools Corporation is reporting success with its efforts to provide free meals to local children during the summer months. Food Services Director Carin Clifton gave the school board an update Monday on the Summer Food Service Program. It’s sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and aims to give meals to children 18 and younger, as well as adults with disabilities who are enrolled in a state-approved education program. Nonprofits Can Raise Funds by Assisting with State Fair

Arrest Made in Connection with 1997 Bank Robbery
A Florida man currently incarcerated in the Fulton County Jail now faces charges in connection with a 1997 bank robbery in Miami County. According to the Indiana State Police, the First Farmers Bank and Trust in Amboy was allegedly held up on December 18, 1997. By the time officers arrived, the suspect had allegedly left the bank and run to a vehicle. Continue reading
LSD, Cocaine, Meth Allegedly Found During Fulton County Traffic Stop
An Ohio man was arrested in Fulton County Thursday, after police say they found LSD, cocaine, meth, and other drugs in the van he was driving. Culver School Board Reverses Administrative Cut, Delays Naming Permanent Superintendent
The Culver Community Schools Corporation has changed its plans for administrative cuts, due to some recent resignations. Last December, the school corporation recommended cutting two administrative positions, as well as some teaching jobs, as a cost-saving measure. The school board moved ahead with that process earlier this year, voting not to renew the contract of Assistant Principal/Title 1 Director Julie Berndt. Continue reading
ISP Talks Drugs with Amish Community
The Indiana State Police are conducting more outreach for local Amish populations in the state.
Recently, troopers addressed a crowd in Elkhart County about the warning signs and dangers of drug use. The use of narcotics, such as heroin, has been identified as impacting members of the Amish community particularly hard in the Hoosier state.
Ancilla Schedules Blessing for Second Residence Hall
Less than a year after opening its first residence hall, Ancilla College will be dedicating its second student housing facility next month. Marshall Commissioners Recommend Funding Elevator Upgrades
Aging elevators at the Marshall County Courthouse are prompting the maintenance department to recommend a fix.
The Courthouse in Plymouth has two elevators, north and south, that have been a mixture of benefits and problems for the maintenance crew. A company is contracted to help maintain the elevators, which has advised the elevators are aging past their usefulness.
Culver School Board Approves Agreement with Town
The Culver School Board has signed on to a partnership between the the school corporation and the Town of Culver, in an effort to reduce costs and share resources. Town and school officials have been working for the past few months on an intergovernmental agreement. Continue reading
