Plymouth Business Celebrates 160th Anniversary
A Plymouth business is celebrating 160 years of doing business with an afternoon open house. Felke Florist is in it’s fifth generation of family ownership. Chris Fekle says his Great-Great Grandma “Flower Mary” Felke was the original entrepreneur and was recorded as the first female florist in Chicago.
“She would gather wildflowers in the fields that surrounded the train stations, and she originally started selling them to the passengers who got on and off of the trains. After a number of years of doing so, she then gained some contracts to provide flowers for lobbies of hotels and also hotel rooms,” Felke said. Continue reading

BMV Amends Hours to Accommodate Elections
Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles license branches will adjust their hours next Monday and Tuesday in order to accommodate prospective voters. They will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2 and from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3. During those times license branches will only process new, amended or replacement ID card and driver’s license or learner permit applications. New driver’s licenses and learner permits will only be processed if the customer has already completed the required testing. Continue reading
Plymouth Common Council to Establish Grant Fund
The Plymouth Common Council will consider establishment of a dedicated fund for proceeds from a state grant when they meet this evening. The DNR recently awarded a $50,000 Lake and River Enhancement grant for Yellow River improvements. Continue reading
Area Historians Gather in Starke County
The Starke County Museum and county historian Ed Hasnerl recently hosted a roundtable meeting of county historians. Jeanette Rooney is the Assistant Director for local history services at the Indiana Historical society. She says each of Indiana’s 92 counties has an appointed volunteer historian as part of a program co-sponsored by the Indiana Historical Society and Indiana Historical Bureau. Continue reading

The Indiana Department of Transportation and the Road Construction Awareness Corporation are teaming up in the name of highway safety.
