Maximum Sentence Handed Down for Toddler’s 2015 Murder

The Marshall County man who admitted to beating his girlfriend’s toddler to death with a hairbrush last September because she wet the bed received a maximum sentence for murder this morning in Marshall Superior Court. Judge Robert O. Bowen told Shane Weedling the only factor in his favor was his guilty plea in connection with Serenity Wilson’s murder last year in a Plymouth motel room. Continue reading

Murder Defendant to Be Sentenced Today

The Plymouth man who admitted to beating his girlfriend’s toddler to death for wetting the bed will learn his fate today in a Marshall County courtroom. Shane Weeding entered a guilty plea to murder during a Sept. 13 court appearance in connection with 2-year-old Serenity Wilson’s death last September at the Economy Inn Motel in Plymouth. Weeding was living there with her mother, Krysti Lavanway, according to court documents. Continue reading

Bulk Purchaser Pitches County on Jail Food Cost Savings

Marshall County may be able to save money when purchasing food for county jail inmates.

The county contracts with Gordon Food Service to obtain the necessary supplies to feed those residing inside the jail. An analysis conducted last month on food purchasing invoices led a Michigan-based non-profit to develop solutions.
