65 Year Sentence Imposed in Infant Death Case

gavel-300x199The Plymouth man who beat his girlfriend’s toddler to death for wetting the bed learned his fate today in a Marshall County courtroom.

24-year-old Shane Weedling was sentenced to 65 years in prison with credit for time served. With good behavior, Weedling could be out in about 49 years.

Weedling entered a guilty plea to murder during a Sept. 13 court appearance in connection with 2-year-old Serenity Wilson’s death last September at the Economy Inn Motel in Plymouth. Weeding was living there with Wilson’s mother, Krysti Lavanway, according to court documents.

Weedling was sentenced on what would have been Serenity Wilson’s fourth birthday. The court cited the defendants prior record which includes two juvenile convictions, four probation revocations, and six jail sentences.The fact that he violated a position of trust, and that the victim was incapable of defending herself was also cited.

In exchange for his guilty plea, neglect of a dependent and possession of marijuana charges were dropped. This is a developing story. Check back soon for more information.
