The Culver Town Council opened a work session Tuesday, April 9 that focused on the proposed Comprehensive Plan with emphasis on wording concerning the two-mile jurisdiction.
Town Attorney Sean Surrisi explained at the beginning of the meeting that there is wording pertaining to the expansion of the town limits to a two-mile jurisdiction in the proposed Culver2040 Comprehensive Plan and it is there in case there is a need to expand the boundaries of the town limits in Culver. He added that there are no plans to do that at this time nor have there been discussions to move forward on the matter.
Indiana Code 36-7-4-205 allows for the expansion of the two-mile jurisdiction and that was simply included in the Comprehensive Plan.
According to Culver Town Manager Kevin Danti, over 70 individuals who primarily live outside of the corporate town limits provided feedback where they were opposed to that type of action by government leaders.
During the Culver Town Council meeting held Thursday, April 11, the Culver Town Council agreed to amend the proposed Comprehensive Plan that would include the following wording, “Although IC 36-7-4-205 permits municipalities to extend their zoning authority two miles beyond the town does not presently nor in the foreseeable future plan to extend zoning authority beyond its current limits.”
Feedback is still being received on that portion of the Comprehensive Plan and other proposals in the plan. The official deadline to receive feedback was April 11.
