The Marshall County Commissioners and the Plymouth City Council members were presented with an Intergovernmental Agreement during their recent respective meetings that pertains to coverage during the absence of Marshall County Building Commissioner Steve Howard.
Howard is out of the office for a while and Plymouth Building Commissioner Dennis Manuwal, Jr. has agreed to step in and help the county with inspections and other tasks.
In the agreement, County Attorney Jim Clevenger told the commissioners that the county will compensate Manuwal, Jr. for his work done for the county.
He said City Attorney Sean Surrisi had put in the agreement the use of the county vehicle by Manuwal, Jr. but Clevenger noted that would create insurance issues for the county. As a compromise, the county would reimburse for use of the city vehicle or his personal vehicle to conduct county business.
The commissioners unanimously approved the agreement.
The Plymouth City Council took up the conversation Monday night. Councilman Don Ecker, Jr. commented that he was concerned about the workload and stress that Manuwal, Jr. is undertaking with his current responsibilities and now with county responsibilities. Ecker, Jr. said he was willing to accept the agreement with an expiration date and then reevaluate it at that point.
The council members eventually agreed to accept the agreement as it was presented and then give notice to the Marshall County Commissioners that they will look at the agreement again January 31, 2024 unless the agreement is terminated prior to the date.
