Culver Town Council Adopts Golf Cart Ordinance Amendment

The Culver Town Council members took action Tuesday night on the third reading of the proposed amendment to the golf cart ordinance.

The amendment addresses an increase in the golf cart registration fee from $60 to $100.

The town council members previously took public comment concerning the increase of the fee where residents believed that those who follow the rules are being punished by the increase in registration fees. They think that fines should be increased to punish the violators who do not follow the rules and regulations of the golf cart ordinance.

A representative of a golf cart business in town expressed a hardship with the registration fee.

There are approximately 640 registered golf carts in the Town of Culver.

Town officials were previously asked about the reasoning behind the increase. Police enforcement, an increase of golf cart traffic on the town’s roadways, safety issues, frequency of calls, and additional funding needs in the General Fund were the main reasons given.

The council approved the third and final reading of the ordinance with Councilmen Bill Cleavenger, Bill Githens and Rich West in favor of the adoption, while Councilman Bill Hamm officially voted “present”. Councilwoman Sally Ricciardi, who opposed the first two readings of the ordinance stating that she was more in favor of a smaller increase, was not in attendance during Tuesday night’s meeting. The ordinance did pass with a majority vote of the members in attendance.
