The Marshall County Commissioners and the Marshall County Council will meet in joint session today to discuss long term Special Local Income Tax (LIT) funding.
The two government entities have had discussions in the past about extending the Special LIT Fund for continued operations at the Marshall County Correctional Facility. They previously supported a decision that would extend the tax at its current rate to continue to be able to capture funds to fund jail operations.
Currently, proceeds from the LIT Fund in excess of the repayment of the bonds issued for the construction of the jail go toward the operations at the jail, but the idea is to extend those funds to be used for operations at the jail after the bonds have been fully repaid.
They proposed at the time that the rate would not exceed the current .25 percent and would remain in effect until an ordinance establishing this rate is rescinded or modified to adjust the rate.
The government leaders will discuss how to move forward when they meet today at 4 p.m. ET in the second floor meeting room (203) in the Marshall County Building at 112 W. Jefferson Street in Plymouth.
