Officials Break Ground to Start Construction on Jackson Street Stellar Project in Bremen

Posted on June 20, 2023June 19, 2023Author Anita Goodan

Officials broke ground Monday afternoon to welcome the start of construction on the Jackson Street project in Bremen.

The Town of Bremen was awarded Stellar grant funds for several projects including the Jackson Street project which involves an outdoor pavilion, stage area, a lot of greenspace, new trees, benches, and lighting to create a downtown community gathering area.

The entire cost that includes the alternate bids totals $1,303,700 and work will be done by Brown and Brown General Contractors.

Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy said the project was delayed about three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’re excited to get this project underway and then the pool will be this fall.  We’re excited to get it all going and moving and it should be good for downtown and for Bremen,” said Weldy.

Marshall County Crossroads Chairperson Ginny Bess Munroe is proud to see another Stellar project underway in Marshall County.

Munroe commented, “This one I think is cool because Bremen has always attracted industry.  This is going to attract people to the main drag. I think Bremen put a large investment in Main Street with the Stellar projects between the Community Center that Bremen Community Cares worked on right off of Main Street, the downtown streetscape, and the new road. This project is all about bringing people to Main Street.”

Bremen Community Cares Main Street President and Marshall County Crossroads Public Engagement Committee Chairperson Matt VanSoest said the Jackson Street project is an important one for Bremen.

VanSoest added, “I think just having a place to have the Farmer’s Markets, the Oktoberfest, End of Summer Festival – people like to see a space that they can gather and celebrate together as a community.  That’s something that they’ll take ownership over in many years to come.  It’s going to be another special quality of life project for small towns in Marshall County.”

Many officials representing the town, town’s utilities and Bremen Chamber of Commerce were in attendance to break ground for the project that began Monday, June 19.

Bremen Town Council President Bill Daily is looking forward to the completion of Jackson Street.

“I just appreciate the fact that Bremen is constantly moving forward and trying to do the right thing for the citizens of Bremen,” stated Daily.

The Jackson Street project is anticipated to be complete this fall.
