Marshall County Commissioners Open Bids for Unsafe Building Demolition in Culver

The Marshall County Commissioners opened bids for the demolition of 590-600 W. Jefferson Street in Culver Monday morning, but not before an update from Marshall County Building Inspector Steve Howard.

“Just as of last Friday, I get a call saying that his building has been repaired,” said Howard.  “It’s kind of a little late, I think, at this point, that we can actually just walk away from it. I’m supposed to go down there to take pictures of the building and inspect it to make sure it’s built back the way it should have been properly.”

He thought a collection of administration fees should be appropriate at the very least.

County Attorney Jim Clevenger asked if the homeowner obtained permits to complete the remodeling work, and Howard said he had not so Howard has not been able to inspect the property.

Clevenger said the issue will need to be taken to the Unsafe Building Commission members at their next meeting to determine a course of action.

Until then, the commissioners continued with the bid opening as scheduled.

Langfeldt Excavating submitted a bid of $11,550 for demolition, Jerry Reed Excavating bid $9,500, while David Stowers bid $9,900.

The bids were taken under advisement to be reviewed by the Unsafe Building Commission.
