Marshall County Commissioners Approve Purchase of HVAC Equipment for Jail

Marshall County Jail Maintenance Director John Greer presented the Marshall County Commissioners with proposals for new HVAC units at the Marshall County Jail.

According to Greer, there are 10 rooftop units and four have been replaced.  In keeping with a three-year plan to replace the remaining units, he obtained the proposals.

Greer stated that he sent out a request for proposals in January to seek the cost of replacing heating and cooling units serving the kitchen area and a HVAC system over the booking area.  He said the lead time for the units is at least 25 weeks.

He received two proposals. H&G Services out of Mishawaka would do the project for $157,145, while Ideal Consolidated out of South Bend would do the project for $174,962. The proposals include the cost of equipment and labor.  The proposals involved the same type of unit.  Greer said both companies have served Marshall County well in the past and the lower proposal would be recommended for approval.

Greer commented that Sheriff Matt Hassel put the cost of replacement of these units into this year’s budget.

The commissioners approved the proposal from H&G Services with a unanimous vote of the members present.

They also unanimously approved a request to seek proposals for two additional units to be installed in the spring of 2024 of which the cost would be figured in next year’s budget.  Those units would service the guard tower, and a rec room and a quarantine/shakedown room.
