Marshall County Commissioners Approve Grant Request for Probation Department

The Marshall County Commissioners heard a request from Marshall County Chief Probation Officer James Bendy to apply for a grant.

Bendy explained that this is the fourth year that the department will be applying for the Pre-Trial grant from the Indiana Office of Court Services.

“This is where we’ve been operating our Pre-Trial expenses out of for the last three years,” said Bendy.  “We have a probation officer [salary] that comes out of it, as well as the Pre-Trial officer [salary] that comes out of it.  We’d like to request this grant again.”

The grant would begin January 1, 2024 and run through December 31, 2024.

The amount of the grant would likely not be more than $120,000, depending on the salary schedule, according to Bendy.

The commissioners approved the request with a unanimous vote of the members present.  The request will go before the Marshall County Council during their next meeting in April.
