Culver Town Council to Rebid Community Crossings Project, Establishes Electric Vehicle Charging Rate, Signs READI Letter

The Culver Town Council will rebid the proposed Community Crossings project as the bid previously received was above the engineer’s estimate.

The project involves the widening of Lakeshore Drive from Academy to State Road 10 and moving sanitation/sewer lines.  Bike lanes will be incorporated in that area.

They will open bids Tuesday, March 28 and then award a recommended bid during that meeting following a review by VS Engineering and Utility Superintendent Bob Porter.

In other news, the council members approved a charging rate for electric vehicles at the town’s electric charging station.

The first two hours will be free.  After those two hours, the hourly fee will be $3.00.  An ordinance pertaining to this fee will be reviewed during the council’s next meeting.

Additionally, the council agreed to sign a commitment letter for the proposed READI grant project which would support funds to support utility and infrastructure costs for a housing development that will be constructed on the south end of town.  The Dunes project will include multi-family housing types, town homes, retiree flats, and single-family homes.  The town will contribute $1.3 million in TIF funds approved by the Culver Redevelopment Commission with $1.3 million in READI funds. READI funds will help fund the first phase of the project which will include building out the infrastructure, utilities, a Clubhouse and amenities for the development, and the first set of multi-family units that will include approximately 78 apartment units.
