The broadband internet project in the Town of Culver will begin in the next few weeks.
It was mentioned during the last Culver Town Council meeting that a subcontractor delivered the design specifications to the town February 14 and Utility Superintendent Bob Porter is going to start to locate utilities along the areas where boring will occur.
Culver Town Manager Ginny Bess Munroe said that workers plan to start on the west and south of town and work their way north through town. The second round will take them to the Culver Fiber Hut.
Once a more concrete timeline is determined, communication efforts will be made to residents and business owners to discuss the schedule and what sort of disruptions may occur. Notices will be mailed and information will be available on Facebook, Town Gown and Lake email service, and the town’s website at www.townofculver.org.
As part of the communication effort, the Culver Town Council unanimously agreed to allow the placement of informational yard signs regarding the project in certain right-of-way areas in town as another way to relay broadband information.
In August, the Culver Redevelopment Commission approved funding for the contract with a total investment of $531,023.17. Surf is expected to invest $796,534.75.
