The Marshall County Council rejected an additional appropriation submitted by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department for Ritter Strategic Services, LLC to evaluate the dispatch, Standard Operating Procedures review, training program analysis, and radio needs.
The council tabled the request during the October meeting for clarification.
The analysis is being done as a result of problems experienced by surrounding agencies in terms of dispatching and radio issues.
The Marshall County Commissioners previously approved a proposal with the company to do the work at a cost of $53,100 to come out of the LIT Special Purpose Fund.
During the council meeting last week, Sheriff Matt Hassel explained that the additional appropriation is being withdrawn. He stated the officials at Ritter Strategic Services, LLC will not be able to finish the evaluation this year and will ask for the money in 2023. The request will be made in January.
New radios purchased will help with reception and coverage, according to Hassel.
With that, the council voted unanimously to reject the additional appropriation request.
Additionally, the council approved an additional appropriation for a new freezer/cooler for the Marshall County Neighborhood Center in the amount of $59,949.75 and a new security system at the Marshall/Starke Development Center in the amount of $62,267.60 out of American Rescue Plan Act funds.
