The Culver Town Council received an update Tuesday night about a presentation made to the Marshall County Commissioners regarding dispatch issues.
Culver Town Manager Ginny Bess Munroe, Town Marshal Wayne Bean and EMS Director Jeff Koon went before the commissioners last week to express frustration over issues with the Central Dispatch Center in that emergency services are often dispatched to wrong addresses and a communication issue that needs to be resolved.
In response to the concerns, Marshall County 911/Communications Director Matthew Pitney said the 800 MHz system Plymouth tower went into site trunking on June 12 for two days and again June 20 for several days. He said protocols that have been in place for many years were followed properly. He explained that site trunking is a fall back when there is a problem with the 800 system.
Pitney noted that the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department has been updating the dispatch radio system which includes new radios and hardware/software at the desks which has caused some issues, but the installation process should be complete this month.
Munroe told the Culver Town Council Tuesday night that she has since received a call from Pitney who provided her with a list of Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) call reports.
“I really prefer more than a report and more than the number of calls we’ve had – that sort of thing,” said Munroe. “I said I really want to see active solutions forming and if we need to take the lead on that tell me who to contact and how to get those people together. Jeff and Wayne did an excellent job of being professional and presenting the issues. I believe the commissioners listened.”
Council President Bill Githens said more visits may need to be made to commissioner meetings if a solution is not discovered in a reasonable amount of time.
During the public comment portion of the meeting, a resident thanked the town for stepping up to find a solution to the problem.
