The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department is adding a new 911 dispatcher. Sheriff Matt Hassel told the county council this month that the switch to a county-wide dispatch center a few years ago resulted in 30-to-40-percent increase in his department’s dispatch services. Now, he says the funding is in place to increase staffing to keep up with demand.

Flooded roads are proving to be a challenge in Marshall County. State Road 10 was closed between U.S. 31 and State Road 331, as of Saturday afternoon, according to INDOT. U.S. 6 was reportedly closed between Bremen and Nappanee as of Saturday morning. INDOT also reported areas of high water on State Road 331.

Multiple fire departments responded to the Plymouth Walmart Saturday evening. A fire was reported in the roof area of the automotive department around 8:45 p.m., according to Marshall County dispatchers.

A Lapaz woman successfully used technology to report an emergency situation to the sheriff’s department Monday evening. She sent a 911 text message to Marshall County Central Dispatch around 7:15 p.m. advising her boyfriend had battered her.
