Marshall County Commissioners Hear from Center Township Trustee Concerning Cemetery Issue

Center Township Trustee Amy Knapp presented a request to the Marshall County Commissioners Monday morning for a survey to be done of the Lake/Stringer Cemetery off of State Road 17 next to the hospital in Plymouth.

Knapp explained that Mike Relos has land for sale at the corner and there was some excavation work being done which prompted phone calls to Knapp.  She said people were concerned that there was digging in the cemetery.

She said she went to the property with Commissioner Stan Klotz and found that the fence was removed which was not supposed to be done.  A marker stone was also reportedly unearthed. She said the excavating work was done too close to the cemetery.  By law, Knapp said, no excavation work can be done within 100 feet of the cemetery fence and the fence was reportedly taken down with work done within that limited space.

The Center Township attorney is working on this issue.

Knapp asked the commissioners if Marshall County Surveyor Craig Cultice could conduct the survey to determine the proper lines, and that was unanimously approved.
