The Culver Town Council approved the use of town equipment for officers of the Culver Police Department to provide additional security at ACPI in response to a recent gun threat made by a former employee.

Culver Police Chief Wayne Bean approached the council during the regular meeting Tuesday evening. He had already discussed the issue with Council President Bill Githens the week prior.

Githens confirmed that ACPI requested the additional surveillance in response to a “viable threat”.

The Town of Culver Policy Handbook states that if freelance work is conducted using town equipment, uniforms, or labor, the Town Council’s approval is required.

Officers will be working freelance and financial compensation will be provided by ACPI as the service exceeds standard surveillance and emergency response.

Council Vice President Sally Ricciardi made a motion to approve the request. Her motion was seconded by Member Richard “Rich” West. The council unanimously approved the motion.
