The Argos Town Council members accepted a bid Wednesday night in order to construct two utility buildings on South First Street.
This was the second time the project went out for bid. The first round was for just one building, but Utility Superintendent Jamie Lindstrom wanted to bid out both projects at the same time so he changed the bid specifications to reflect that and rebid the project.
Town Attorney Derek Jones explained that the bids were opened on Monday, June 13. Only one bid was received and it came from B&B Roofing and Construction in the amount of $902,000. Jones reviewed the bid and found it to be within the specifications set forth by the town and recommended that the council approve the bid, which they did with a unanimous vote.
The cost will come out of the Electric Department budget.
Lindstrom said one building will be constructed to add on to the current Police Department and EMS Building. Once that is done, the Quonset hut on the property will be demolished, which was not included in the bid, and then a new building built.
Jones previously commented that the first building must be completed within 180 days from the issuance of the award. Then there needs to be a few months with no construction so Lindstrom can have time to mobilize items from the old building to the new building and prepare the Quonset hut for demolition. Once that is done, the second building project can begin. The second building needs to be done within 18 months within the issuance of award.
