ARGOS – During the last meeting of the Argos Town Council, a resolution was passed that discussed the Maple Grove Cemetery bylaws.

“We’ve been having some crazy questions like ‘Can I just go out there and dig a hole and put somebody in it?’,” said Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney.

Because of this, Deputy Clerk Candi Weller has been going through the bylaws of the cemetery. Mullaney explained that Weller had “kind of revamped them so that it would state exactly what you have to do if you want to bury somebody out there.”

Mullaney further added that the specifications of foundations and headstones weren’t focused on, but it could be if that was what the council wished.

“It’s just an update to the bylaws so that we clarify some stuff,” Mullaney said.

Council President Charles Randy Snead asked Mullaney if a copy of the bylaws is given to everyone that purchases a plot. Mullaney said yes. She added that the bylaws are also posted out at the cemetery.

The resolution was approved by the council unanimously.

Bids for cemetery mowing were opened. The first bid was from A & J Lawn Care, Plymouth, for $22,000. The second bid was from 3-D Services for $21,240. The Town Council voted to take those bids under advisement. It will be up for determination for tonight’s meeting.

Cemetery pricing for 2022 was brought up by the council. “Most grave spaces, to get a foundation poured, is $500 to $600. So, we’re selling the grave space and that for $675, I think is what I’m looking to raise it to,” said Mullaney.

The price, before the meeting, was $640. Mullaney said that the extra $35 would go into the cemetery fund. “As you can see, we’re probably going to need it for mowing because we didn’t budget that much,” Mullaney said.

The council approved the increase in pricing for 2022.

The Argos Town Council will meet tonight where they will discuss Community Crossings bids and a contract, a discussion of a water feasibility study in order to apply for grants, a declaration of restrictions and covenants for Deerfield Meadows, and finding a company to assist with compiling the town’s assets.

The Argos Town Council will meet at 7 p.m. ET tonight at the Argos Town Hall at 201 W. Walnut Street.
