Bourbon Town Council Reorganizes, Takes Action on Animal Ordinance

The Bourbon Town Council members reorganized for the new year when they met Tuesday night and then looked at the proposed animal ordinance.

Ward Byers was unanimously retained as council president and Les McFarland was unanimously retained as council vice president.

The proposed animal ordinance was considered for adoption. The council members reviewed the updated ordinance as several complaints have been received about unrestrained dogs and other animals in general.  The ordinance suggests that residents take good care of their animals, and that they do not become a public nuisance or a dangerous animal. Dogs and other animals should be properly vaccinated against rabies and properly restrained.

The animal ordinance defines allowable and controlled animals, the sale of animals, motor vehicle accidents involving animals, poisoning of animals, animals inside motor vehicles, trapping of animals, maximum allowable number of animals to be kept on a property, animal maintenance, and animal bites and reports.

The complete ordinance can be found here.

The council members unanimously approved the third reading of the ordinance Tuesday night. With that action, the ordinance was adopted.
