The Marshall County Commissioners will soon consider a new inmate housing agreement with Elkhart County.
County Attorney Jim Clevenger presented a proposal to the Marshall County Commissioners where inmates from Marshall County could be housed in the Elkhart County Jail at $60 a day if the Marshall County facility is at point where overcrowding could be an issue.
Clevenger pointed out that a new agreement in 2022 increases the number of inmates allowed to be housed at the Elkhart County Jail to be 50. He previously commented that the agreement shows an effort being made to take steps to deter an overcrowding issue.
The commissioners will consider the approval of that agreement in an upcoming meeting.
