Marshall County Courthouse Bells to Ring in Remembrance of September 11

The Marshall County Commissioners approved the ringing of the Marshall County Courthouse bells today at the times of the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and in Somerset County, Pennsylvania as America remembers these events 20 years ago today.

Marshall County Commission President Kevin Overmyer said this will be a way to honor the lives of those lost in the attacks on American soil.

The first bell will toll at 8:46 a.m. which is the time Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.  The second bell will toll at 9:03 a.m. as Flight 175 crashed into the South Tower of the World Trade Center.  The third bell will toll at 9:37 a.m. when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon. The final bell will toll at 10:03 a.m. ET when United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania that was headed to the White House.

These acts killed and injured thousands of people.  The commissioners encourage residents to take a moment to honor the memory of lives lost and the courage of all first responders who responded to these events.
