Tippecanoe Township Trustee Matt Pitney presented a request from the Tippecanoe Township Board to the Marshall County Commissioners to help fund the construction of a sidewalk in front of the fire house.
He explained that he was approached a year ago from a member of the Improvement Association that there is no sidewalk between the fire station and Baugher Drive, along U.S. 331.
“Obviously, that’s kind of a dangerous situation to have people walking along the berm on 331 there,” commented Pitney.
Pitney noted that the township does not have adequate funds to pursue the project, and the association representative contacted the commissioners for help. Commission President Kevin Overmyer said he spoke with Auditor Julie Fox about available funds to pay for the project that is estimated over $11,000.
Fox stated that pandemic money that was reverted from last year could be used for the project.
Pitney said the Tippecanoe Township Board members approved action to move forward with the project with the quote from Hensley and Sons Inc.
The commissioners approved the request with an amount not to exceed $11,500.
