Members of the Argos Town Council are hopeful that a closing date will be scheduled soon concerning the property in downtown Argos for the Downtown Square project at Michigan and Walnut. The decision would also consider the management for rental properties. The attorney has come up with an approximate date.
Town Attorney Derek Jones told the council this week that there is no closing date yet, but the Argos Redevelopment Commission members are set to acquire the property at the end of the month.
The area will feature a new train depot, benches, an elevated performance stage, landscaping, signage, and an arch.
Bids for the project came in $131,000 over budget, but much of the items listed in the proposal have already been paid for by the town and there will be almost $83,000 left over from the Pond Park project that could be transferred over to help fund this project as it is also a Marshall County Crossroads Regional Stellar Communities Initiative project. In essence, the shortfall will not be as large as the council initially thought.
Bids have not been approved at this time, but Argos Economic Development Director Mark VanDerWeele said the project should begin sometime this fall.
