Marshall County Chief Probation Officer James Bendy and Beth Harner asked both the Marshall County Council and Marshall County Commissioners to apply for two grants.
Harner explained that the CARA Grant would allow the department to obtain dosages of Naloxone and training.
Harner said, “In case somebody would overdose, we have the kits available and it would offer free training for all of our staff to get continuing education credits.”
Bendy also requested permission to apply for the Justice Partners Addiction Response Grant. It is for about $60,000 which helps pay a part-time recovery services specialist and criminal justice intake employee.
“We’ve utilized the grant through this intercept model that we trained on where we’ve identified the different areas in the criminal justice system that there might have been some openings or some lack in communication. It kind of led to the addictions person at the jail being hired. These are things where we’ve identified those areas with that team.”
The Marshall County Council and Marshall County Commissioners approved both grant applications with a unanimous vote during their respective meetings.
